Total Depravity
Human beings are wholly condemned, utterly wicked and spiritually dead. This is the result of unregenerate (unsaved) man being born into sin and thereby being controlled by his nature that is corrupted by sin. The unbeliever can perform deeds that seem good and beneficial but his motives are sinful, because their good works and behavior are performed not to glorify God. However, man is not absolutely depraved, which is to say he is not as bad as he possibly could be, but he is totally depraved in that every aspect of his being is corrupted by sin and therefore not directed towards God.
